How to Use Cutoffs to Estimate Your Score

1

Calculate your composite score

Enter your practice MCQ and FRQ scores into our calculator. It applies the exact subject-specific weighting to produce your estimated composite, just like College Board does.

2

Find your subject in the table above

Locate your AP subject in the cutoff table. Compare your composite to the Score 5, 4, and 3 columns to find your predicted score. If your composite matches or exceeds a cutoff, that's your estimated score.

3

Check your distance to the next level

See how far you are from the next score level. If you're close, focus on your weakest section (MCQ or FRQ) to push yourself over the threshold. Our calculator shows this automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do cutoffs change?

College Board adjusts cutoffs every year based on exam difficulty. If the exam was harder, cutoffs drop slightly. Typical adjustment is 2–5 points. We update our data within 48 hours of official releases each summer.

How accurate are these cutoffs?

The cutoffs above reflect the most recent publicly available data. For 13 major subjects, we use exact historical composite ranges. For others, we use conservative estimates based on multi-year patterns. Exact 2026 cutoffs will be confirmed after scores release in July.

What if my score is borderline?

If your composite is within 3 points of a cutoff, you're in the borderline zone. We recommend focusing practice on your weakest section. Even 2 extra composite points can push you up a full AP score level.
